presidents Message

It is my pleasure to welcome and introduce you to the Michigan Association of Black Social Workers (MABSW) website. After numerous discussions over the last year, the MABSW Executive Committee and State Steering Committee determined that the time had come to make this website a reality. I undertook that charge and committed my administration to the task of designing, developing, and launching a website that would be representative of MABSW, our affiliates, and the values and principles that guide our organization.

Throughout every facet of our website development process, we worked diligently and tirelessly to create a website which would be a quality, internet– based platform and resource for both our members and the community at large. In addition to our mission vision, and purposes, MABSW is predicated on and guided by the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) Code of Ethics as we strive to provide information that is timely, relevant, and educational.

Our website features a business and organization directory, African Diaspora news updates, guest editorials, and articles of current or historical interest.  Periodically we will feature a range of articles on healthy eating and lifestyles, food security and sovereignty, health disparities, community sustainability, and economic self-sufficiency.

The MABSW Career Center allows job-seekers to post resumes, free of charge, and employers to post job openings at very reasonable rates. Our Career Center offers U.S. and foreign employment opportunities. Our national viewership is target-specific and is representative of MABSW and affiliate organization members who are of African ancestry. They possess a wide range of academic credentials and experience in fields which include social work, non- profit and for-profit human service, health, education, business, technology, and public service. Our viewership is global and includes Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.

On behalf of MABSW, I hope you will continue to visit our website and ask that you introduce our website to others. We thank you and welcome your support of our efforts, which since 1972, have been to strengthen and preserve Black families, the Black community, and the creation of Black social institutions.

In the Spirit of Harambee!
